Volunteer!
You're the boss!
(And the DJ. And the barman. And the decorator. And the performance artist. And the door-whore. And the builder. And the event-coordinator. And the purchasing manager. And the fluffer. )
Unlike pretty every other event that happens in London that's worth mentioning, Decom is unique in a very special way.... it's run entirely by its participants. Everyone who makes it happen is a volunteer, and is doing it off their own back in order to make Decom one of the best events they've been to, ever, period.
Also, everyone who does this - is just like you! We're not professional party planners, or event co-ordinators, or nightclub promoters, or festival organisers, or Peter Stringfellow. Ok, maybe we wouldn't want to be Peter Stringfellow - that would be a whole different kind of event.
No one is paid to be there or to make the magic happen, nor does anyone get a free ticket (sorry!), so we're relying on your input and your participation to make it all come true. This is one of the ways that we make it as wonderful as it is, and ensures that ALL the ticket revenue goes towards the costs of running the event as well as generating funding for various arts projects.
Please note: you need to have a ticket for Decom already - they have now sold out! :( We still need volunteers to help make the magic happen though.
Getting involved
We're keen to give as many people the opportunity to get involved this year in making key decisions and taking on roles and responsibilities. In particular, if you want to take on a lead role - which means you get to take on the responsibility for an entire section of decom - then now is your chance! There are plenty of opportunities available, so we encourage you to sign up and find out more.
We will also update the website over the coming days and weeks, to give more information on what's going on, as well as a chance for you to see how you can get involved, volunteer for a role, or to help out in other ways. Remember, if you don't have the time to take on a lead role, there are many other ways that you can help Decom'11 happen, and the way to find out about that is on the website.
Really: get involved!
Not to labour a point, but we really can't stress enough how important it is that you get involved in making Decom'11 happen. It may seem like everything is wonderfully in hand and that the core Decom team have got everything under control [flutters eyelashes], but the fact is - without a large team of participants who volunteer to make things happen - Decom'11 will end up being a tiny party in the back of a pub, not an amazing multi-sensory multi-faceted multi-roomed indoor festival for as many people as we can "radically include" :)So please, step forwards, put your hands up, and help us make this all happen.
What is there to do?
For a list of the available roles and a little more about them - e.g. job specs - visit the Available Roles page, or use the menus above.
But... how do I apply?
The first step is to sign up on this 'ere website.
Sign in with Facebook - that's the easiest way. No facebook account (or don't want to?) - click the "Sign up" link below, and follow the instructions.
Once you're signed into the website, click the big button on the right hand column that says "Volunteer Now", and fill in the form you see.
That's i!
Sit tight, and wait - we'll be in touch!
